  1. Nearly 130 million Americans commute back and forth to work each day.
  2. The average American spends 47 hours sitting in traffic each year.
  3. The average one-way commute time in the U.S. is 26 minutes.
  4. 80% of commuters in the U.S. travel alone in their cars.
  5. Approximately 3.9 billion gallons of gasoline is wasted in idle traffic in the U.S. every year.
  6. 3.4 million Americans endure a commute of 90 minutes or more each way to work.
  7. Researchers have found that long commutes can increase a married couple’s chance of divorce by 40%.
  8. Commuting can cause neck pain, obesity, loneliness, stress and insomnia.

  10. Less than 2% of Americans commute by bicycle.
